Written by Wendy Bennett
Friday, 26 June 2015 18:37

We have started to receive entries for the Australian Championships and so far have a 100% strike rate of competitors not including a self addressed stamped envelope.

Please refer to the Sup Regs condition 5.5 which states that all entrants must include a self addressed stamped envelope with their paperwork in order for the entrant to receive final instructions and entry passes to the event.

If you do not include the envelope you risk not receiving the correct information and entry passes.

Please ensure that you include the envelope with your entry. If you are a family residing at the same address, one envelope will be sufficient

Vale Craig Gillies

Craig Gillies was involved in a head-on collision with a motor vehicle on Thursday 18 June, whilst he was tuning/testing his Yamaha Tenere. Craig was a well-liked and respected Trials rider, perhaps one of the most naturally gifted riders to originate from Queensland. Sponsored by Yamaha from age 15, Craig won an Australian Junior Championship in 1978, his career continued with many wins in A grade in local events and also achieving Queensland and NSW open solo Championships. Craig was also an excellent Enduro rider, showing many during his racing career (1981-1985) that Trials skills were a big advantage in competition Enduro. "Gillies" was always cool, calm and collected, he demonstrated great sportsmanship and was willing to help others when in need. Craig and his father, Gordon were also collectors and riders of classic bikes, they are fortunate to have shared thier common passion for motorcycling.

I recall an event in the 70's, Craig has lobbed home early on a Sunday morning from a 'big night' at the Sunnybank Hotel. Gordon drives a sleeping Craig to the Trials event, wakes his rider up so he can get through 'scrutineering' to go on to win A-grade that day. New Zealand Championships 1987- very unlucky to win overall in this 3-day event, on day 2, Craig halves the score of second place to win the day on sections that all featured nasty tree-roots, a testimony to his amazing throttle-control and balance. A great friend to his mates, Craig will be missed and fondly remembered.

Results and Event Report - Victorian Trial Series - Round 3

Photos from Victorian Trial Series Round 3 (Results attached below)

We arrived at the Winchelsea farm for a brisk start but the bright blue sky was a reminder it was only a matter of time before we warmed up.

Jared Anskatis and Ross Osbourne have taken over the helm that was held for many years by Mal Loone and his troop of merry men. Anakie was the Sporting Clubs number one spot and Winchelsea was probably the poor cousin.

Well Jared, Ross, Marcus and Glen absolutely tipped that theory on its head !! You would have thought you had been blindfolded and taken to Glenmaggie. Sections were set using the beautiful grass banks, rocky outcrops, and parts of the river itself. The sections I rode in C+ were first class! 3 were tough but cleanable if you had been on your game , 4 were gettable with a reasonable effort put in and 3 were cruisy. 2 of the sections were man made by Kent and family ( Landowner ) They were great, really well built. The first lap was pretty slick as the sun hadn’t dried the ground yet but by lap 2 the Dunlops were starting to hook up.

NSW Rd1 this Sunday, call out for riders and observers

GetInlineThe first Open Trial in NSW for 2015 is running this Sunday at Cheesmans Rd Cattai, which will be Rd1 of the NSW championships.

Everything is ready to go, now we need riders and observers.

As of 6pm Tuesday evening, we have 45 riders and 5 observers, so anyone who is not riding is encouraged to come along and help out with a bit of observing.

There are ten sections ready to go, there are even laminated start cards that tell the riders how many splits are in each section for each grade,  and it would be great to use all of them in the trial.

Give Kevin a call on 0401 431 629 or email kevin_zarczynski AT hotmail.com to be part of the fun on Sunday.
