NARRE Warren East’s David MacDonald is enjoying a rapid rise in the sport of moto-trials and is keen to take on the best junior riders in the state and country at the upcoming 2015 Victorian Moto-Trials Championships at Sedgwick this weekend, August 15-16.
Originally an off-road rider, David joined the Oakleigh Motorcycle Club and tried out the sport to improve his skills as an enduro rider and soon became hooked. “It’s just such a nice sport.
“There are friendly people everywhere and you get to ride at some great locations,” David, who is currently a Victorian and Australian junior moto-trials champion, said.
Moto-trials is an exciting motorcycle sport that pits rider and motorbike against challenging natural terrain. Riders have to scale large rocks, boulders, logs and navigate tricky paths through the bush in order to secure valuable points over competitors.
“I was extremely happy when I won my first lot of titles last year. In 2013, I was finished second in both so to win two last year was really nice,” David added.
David will look to defend his hard-earned titles beginning with the Victorian Moto-Trials Championships at Sedgwick this weekend. He’ll also compete at the Australian Moto-Trials Championships at Pacific Park in New South Wales on August 29-30.
“I’ve been training hard. I’ve been riding for about four to five days a week,” he added. “At the Australian Moto-Trials Championships I hope to be able get into the top three and crack the win if I can,” David, who’ll be stepping it up into the bigger Under 13-16 year-old class this year, said.
He also recently became a recipient of the 2015 Hannaford Family Trials Scholarship, provided by the Oakleigh Motorcycle Club, which offered him a brand new 2015 Beta EVO Factory 125 trials bike from Beta Racing Australia.
David would like to thank his family, especially his Dad as without him nothing could happen. “I’d also like to thank my older sister Caitlin from Team Communications, Beta Racing Australia, and Global Racing Oils for all their help,” David added.
The 2015 Victorian Moto-Trials Championships takes place off of Springs Road, Sedgwick, just south of Bendigo, this weekend, August 15-16. You can still enter in the event by visiting: www.trials.com.au.
