Hi guys. i havent been on in a while, but ive recently found this TY80 and have been stuck into it.
Im trying to work out if they have the same tank design as the 250, or if its just a straight line with yellow and white.
This bike was aparently the first TY80 brought into the country acording to the original owner i purchased it from. he claims he was sponsored by yamaha in the 70s...this particular bike had a side car fitted. He also says it was featured in 1970s bike magazines...i dont know how true any of this is...he said he will scan some of the pages and send to me.
It is missing the part that joins from the air box to the carby..wich i would love to buy if anyone has one they would like to sell.also the end part of the muffler tip.
Ive removed all the mounts and am doing my best to make it all original. he also changed the colour...luckily i have some yellow left i got matched up for my TY250 resto a few years ago.
I have purchased new steering head bearings, a new front gaurd, fork seals, ive sent a lot of the bolts away to get re zinc coated and am curently working on smoothing out all the welded areas the side car brackets were on.
This is my old TY 250 i built a few years ago.
