INTERNATIONAL POWER HAZELWOOD
GIPPSLAND MOTOTRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gippsland riders cleaned up the International Power Hazelwood Gippsland Trials Championships. Mirboo North rider Trevor Campbell riding an Italian Beta motorcycle easily won Expert class. Simon Van Baalen from Trafalgar took out A grade, while Colin Ford from Glengarry won C grade. Other Gippsland riders to do well were John Boag, second in Greybeards, and Alex Coleman from Glenmaggie third in B grade. The final round was held last weekend at Hallston. Riders came from all around Victoria to compete in the International Power Championships. Set in the beautiful Hallston hills the sections featured a variety of terrain. Riders had to negotiate muddy creeks, dry dusty climbs, wet slippery rocks with plenty of tight off-camber turns.The large crowd of spectators basking the the glorious Autumn sunshine were enthralled with the high standard of riding provided by riders like Australian Trial des Nations member Campbell and Van Baalen. Campbell had a brilliant ride. Showing the benefit of his trip to Europe last year representing Australia, Campbell completed two of his five laps dropping only a single penalty point on each. His trick riding style was well suited to the conditions. Van Baalen making the jump to Expert grade had a great ride, dropping less penalty points than any of the A graders. Colin Ford did not concede one penalty point to easily beat a very classy C grade field. Young Ben Italiano and Alex Coleman showed they are riders of the future with first and second place in B grade. Richard Halls made an easy transition from Enduris to Trials with some great results to claim second in C grade in his first season in trials. James Harvie rode well in A grade to take out overall second place and showed he is also a rider of the future. In the battle of the brands Beta had a great result. First in Expert, second in A grade, first and second in B grade, first and second in C grade, second and third in Greybeards and first in Juniors. |
