My carb leans out occasionally just like you describe, though turning or being on an incline is not a factor. I've learned to live with it. I know when it's starting to lean out, so I hold the throttle wide open a few seconds to vibrate the carb and get more fuel down to it. The problem will go immediately away. If you wait too long it will go really lean and die out completely. Very irritating! The problem is manageable, so I have not put on a 24mm flat slide Mikuni like I have been threatening too. I may do that anyway this winter. I've been practice riding lately and have been very pleased with the bike since I put on a WP shock (to my specs.) on the rear. No more short-feeling and harsh rear suspension. The plushness of the `97 Section made me realize the `96 Boge rear shock is not very good. The gas-emulsion WPs I use, with my valving and body specs, bring the `96 up to 90% of what the Paioli shock gives the `97, for a whole lot cheaper.
The timing and flywheel mods make the motor a real delight. A 24mm flat
slide would complement the low end grunt the modified motor produces.
The larger 28mm Keihin may not fit in there as there is little room top
to bottom. I am assuming the Mik is not as tall as the Keihin. Bob
