Back in my go-cart days I remembering cleaning the old brake material
off the metal shoe with a chisel, then going down to a local brake shop
to buy some brake shoe material that was about the correct thickness,
trim the edges with a hacksaw, and useing epoxy and rivets to bond it to
the shoe and then using 36-80 grit to arch grind them for maximum
contact with the drum. A brake shop might even do this for you.

Any condensor will work check out the local K-Mart the lawn mower repair
section. Look for one about the same size with a similar mount.
... They don't even have to fit inside the fly wheel. On my mini bikes
they used to burn out so often that I ran a wire out side the fly wheel
so I didn't have to pull the fly wheel to replace them. Just make sure
the condensor is grounded to the engine. If the only part on the points
that's bad on the are contacts they can be built up with silver solder
or cut the contacts off the points that came with the condenser and
solder them on to the yamaha parts. We used to make air filters out of
foam mattress pads just cut a piece to fit and use contact cement to
glue the ends together, I would recomend letting them sit on the bench
overnight to make sure the oil doesn't melt the foam. Some foam does
some doesn't. I'm still looking for a Boysen reed material. I have
some very thin fiberglass cloth and have been thinking about useing some
epoxy on a glass slab to make some "reed material" but haven't tried it
yet.

I'm starting to sound like a guy with too much time on my hands !
