Worked on a 90 Beta some years back with the same/similar problem. Talked
to Motoplat USA at the time and they informed me that you need 400 rpm to
check for spark. Put a socket on a drill and tried it and finally got
spark. Bike still wouldn't run, however.

Motoplat said ground very critical....so cleaned & sanded all ground
points at coil and stator plate...still no go.

Asked Motoplat if they could test and they replied would need whole system
and would cost X number of dollars. A catch 22, however. Motoplats can
test good and not work...or test bad and work. They suggested replace
parts from another bike.

Called Cosmo and ordered new coil...bike is still running today.

It should be noted that one should never kick a bike over with out a
grounded plug in the coil. You can get waway with it some of the
time...even most of the time...with some ignitions. MotoPlat is almost
guaranteed to die if you don't gound the output of the coil.

My 2 cents worth of experience!
